Social tariff guidelines welcomed
New guidelines designed to improve social tariffs have been welcomed by the UK's energy watchdog.
energywatch has claimed that Ofgem's measures will be "useful" in creating consistency in the deals, which are offered by energy suppliers to those who spend over ten per cent of their income on power.
However, Richard Bates, the organisation's policy advisor, added that the new guidelines would not mean that "everything is resolved".
"The guidance has not addressed the confusion that fuel poor consumers can face on whether they are eligible for their suppliers' social tariff and will not ensure that all those who need such assistance are eligible for these tariffs," he explained.
"We need them to operate to decent minimum standards and to include those who are most vulnerable."
The publication of Ofgem's new guidelines has come after the body also unveiled new measures to improve green tariffs.
According to the regulator, the new plans will help to provide more transparent information to customers about the products.
